Brian Eno Urges Public Help to Propel Together for Palestine Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project seeks to send support to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down after a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the performance was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of musicians featured on Lullaby encompasses a selection of acclaimed names from the scene. All were part of the September show, which successfully generated a significant sum for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of producers and composers. The track features a mix of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The team running the campaign have emphasized that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These proceeds will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a representative said. “We will pursue as much as possible. Of course, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was noted for its profound destruction, with a vast majority of property described as destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a few million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
