Fans Call for Arrest of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of the pop star are demanding that a individual who leaped a fence and seized the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A viral footage reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the cast walked down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the event by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being detained", though official papers indicated that he was due to appear on the next day. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a performance. His Instagram feed contains clips of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last December.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is obviously a punishable act," commented an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Express Concern Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous supporters accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the end of her 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
Several supporters also criticised security officers at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while others requested digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande looked startled when she was approached by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Many of supporters had congregated in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore venue, including several who had queued for as long as eight hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a dual adaptation of the acclaimed theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected friendship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The musical itself is a derivative of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of last year in the UK, and received 10 Academy Award nods, earning a pair for outstanding attire and production design.
