A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country battling rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the forty-year-old presenter was confronted by three suspects, one of whom began shooting at him before running away.
