The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Track
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series by the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.
All in all, the opening looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the music selection.
This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song composed by artist the talented musician. This piece from the official score of that title, the second one released by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.
But for me, The series' opening fails to capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when cast member the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its mood is a little off.
Naturally, the creators has stated that the series will have a few surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.
The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
