The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
